Favorite Things Friday #2

Happy Friday!  The theme for this week’s fave post is ice cream! I cannot contain myself. I love ice cream but then again who doesn’t?  Over the past few days weeks I’ve been lucky enough to try some new flavors and some classics.  These are my favorites!

1. My favorite sundae is at Dairy Queen.  I order a small hot fudge sundae and add Spanish peanuts. It’s essentially a Peanut Buster Parfait, but half the size. Nom nom nom.

2. Blueberry crumble by Haagen Dazs. Have you ever had fresh blueberry ice cream?  If not, it’s a must.  But if it’s not in your immediate future may I suggest this frozen concoction?  It’s super creamy and the blueberries are soo good!

3. Trader Joe’s Mint Chocolate Chip.  I have just tried this flavor this year and it’s delicious! There are chunks of chocolate and a lot of them, too. The mint is very mint-y and creamy as well.

4. Snickers ice cream bars. Do you like snickers? Of course you do! Then run out to the store and buy an ice cream snickers now.  My suggestion is to buy a single bar at a time, because of you buy a multi-pack you may eat more than one.

5. Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked. What happens when you mix brownies and cookie dough and ice cream? This tasty treat from B&J!  If your watching your calories, they make a frozen yogurt version, too.

That’s it! What a better way to celebrate August than to go out and eat some ice cream with family or friends?

What’s your favorite flavor?

Btw, in case you were wondering what’s the latest with our wainscoting project, John and I should be close to finishing it this weekend.  It looks pretty sharp and we’ll probably have something to show for you next week!  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Things I Can’t Live Without #1

So, this isn’t really an original idea by me here.  I’ve seen a few blogs do “favorites” and I’ve always thought that was a clever concept.  For the past couple weeks, I’ve been kicking around doing something similar… thus, we have “Things I Can’t Live Without.”  This is a list of stuff (mostly food) that are part of my near daily routine.  I’m not counting my daughter or my wife, family and friends, etc.  This is a purely material list.  Of course I can’t live without them, so that goes without saying.  Lisa should also be coming up with a list herself shortly.

Here goes and in no particular order…

1.  Pop Tarts.  Not just ANY pop tarts… Nature’s Path Organic Toaster Pastries.  This is my workday breakfast along with a piece of fruit occasionally.  I say occasionally because I’m not one of those “healthy” eaters.  Although I do eat organic pop tarts for breakfast, so, that’s pretty healthy.  I also don’t work out.  I’m a regular Jack Lalanne.

2.  Hot tea.  I’m not a coffee drinker.  We own a Tassimo and once in a while I’ll have a cappuccino, but normally I prefer tea.  Every morning at work, I grab a Lipton Hot tea and fill it up from this gross hot water/Keurig machine that get’s its water from the tap.  I try not to think about it.  Pop tarts and tea make my morning.

3.  Mexican food.  BIG TIME.  There aren’t any Mexican places near where we live, so we’ll drive down to Delaware to a couple restaurants we like.  It’s worth the drive, the gas and the bridge toll.  A couple times a year I get out to San Diego for work.  I only eat Mexican.  No exceptions.  Why would I eat anything else?  It’s the perfect meal.  Well, that and potato skins.

4.  My wife’s meatballs.  Unbelievable.  For legal reasons, I can’t display a photo of them here.  They might make you go crazy.  Also, I don’t have a photo of them.  My wife is Italian, so I expected quality ethic recipes.  After all, I’m Polish and I like good kielbasa and pierogies (hint: I buy both!).  But, I wasn’t expecting this. I don’t even want to get into the details of how she makes them because it is a closely guarded secret.  Let’s just say that most of them don’t make it into the sauce gravy when she’s making spaghetti.  We keep a bunch of gravy and meatballs in small portions in the freezer, that way I can heat some up nearly everyday whenever.  They’re like little meaty vitamins.  Better than Flintstones Chewables and far more satisfying.

I think that’s all I got for now.  Do any of you have the same items on your list?  What are your TYCLWO?
